Addiction treatment can mean different things to different people. In general, though, it refers to a program that helps patients deal with their addiction and help them become sober. Alcohol and drug addiction is a progressive disease, which means that it gets worse over time. The goal of addiction treatment is not just to remove the substance of addiction from the addict's body and soul, but to help the person live a productive, functional life without the dependence. A well-run addiction treatment center offers both medical and therapeutic care for their patients. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most effective addiction treatments out there today. Many refer to it as "behavioral therapy" or "mindfulness therapy." While many also refer to it as simply "counseling," it's also known as" CBT" and is often used in conjunction with medication. When done correctly, CBT can help patients change their behaviors and thought processes that lead to excessive use of alcohol or drugs. Other forms of drug and alcohol treatment Los Angeles include individual and group therapy. You can get cognitive behavioral therapy at a local facility or you can find more comprehensive programs online. In individual CBT sessions, you will be given private time with a trained therapist to talk about your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. You'll be asked to focus your attention on your breathing, your sensations, and your thoughts. The therapist will teach you how to replace your harmful thoughts with more positive ones and how to stay emotionally stable even under extreme circumstances. After individual therapy, you will be given group therapy. This is where you'll participate in group discussions as well as participate in exercises designed to help you cope with your symptoms and fight the physical urges associated with withdrawal. A well-thought out treatment plan will be devised for you that will take into account your personal well-being as well as your loved ones' well-being. In addition to group therapy sessions, you may be referred to a psychiatrist or psychologist for additional guidance as well as support. A mental health professional may prescribe medications in addition to encouraging you to practice healthy lifestyle choices such as eating right and keeping up with routine tasks like taking care of yourself physically. Once you've completed your treatment at the Los Angeles outpatient drug rehab, you'll need to participate in relapse prevention programs to ensure that you don't go back into your addiction. relapse prevention programs are not just for those who have already recovered, they're also for those who are still in the process of recovery. If you participate in these recovery groups, you'll learn about relapse triggers and coping mechanisms you can use when you feel an urge to relapse. Although most substance use disorders involve alcohol or other substances, they are far from the only disorder related to addiction. People who are addicted to gambling, pornography, work related issues, theft, internet addiction, food addiction or some other addiction are all part of the problem. The good news is that treatment programs are available for each of these addictions and help individuals learn to deal with their issues head on without relying on dangerous methods to self-medicate their issues. Recovery is possible and can be achieved through the help of a good treatment program and by implementing healthy lifestyle habits such as maintaining a balanced diet and getting regular exercise. You made a good point that one's personal beliefs should also be a factor when choosing an intensive outpatient therapy program. I will keep that in mind because I will be helping out a friend of mine look for professional help to deal with her problems with anxiety. Perhaps it would be best to ask her more about her beliefs in order to get that factored in.
